The chromosome 15q13.3 deletion is associated with a wide spectrum of diseases. It has a significantly higher prevalence in persons with mental retardation, seizures and neuropsychiatric diseases, but the deletion has also occasionally been found in healthy controls and frequently in healthy relatives of affected individuals.
